Yin Hao Jasmine Tea from Smacha
Having been given a sample amount of this tea by a friend, I decided that since I hadn’t had much experience with drinking jasmine tea that I should do a blog post on it. So my sister and I sat down one cloudy Washington afternoon and she steeped the rounds of tea while I snapped photos and enjoyed drinking and smelling the tea. We lit a candle for a festive touch, and started drinking the rounds. I hadn’t had the opportunity to drink this tea before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The first thing I was struck by was the scent that was released after the leaves were rinsed - it was very fruity, much like a tropical fruit such as mango or guava. This scent was also strong in the tea itself - I kept bringing my tea cup to my nose so that I could smell the tea, I loved it so much. My sister said that the smell of the tea leaves reminded her of bananas. Underneath the strong fruity scent was a hint of floral, mixed with the fruitiness but not overwhelming it. The total amount of rounds made was about a dozen, with the first seven rounds staying very consistent in flavor and smell. The flavor of the tea was quite similar to the scent, with a fruity flavor almost like a tropical fruit, with floral overtones. It was very enjoyable. Overall I was very pleased with this tea, and look forward to trying it again.
